Tottenham have confirmed that the one positive case of coronavirus across the latest 1,197 Premier League tests came from their samples.

In a statement, Tottenham confirmed that 'due to medical confidentiality, the individual's name will not be disclosed.'

They went on to say: 'They are currently asymptomatic and will now self-isolate for seven days, in line with Premier League protocol, before undergoing further testing.

'We shall continue to strictly adhere to the Premier League's Return to Training protocol, which ensures our Training Centre remains a safe and virus-free working environment.'

It is as yet unclear whether the positive test result came from one of the club's players or from a member of staff.

If it is a player, though, they risk missing the first game back when Project Restart gets underway in just 14 days' time.

They will have to self-isolate for seven days immediately, and then despite being asymptomatic, the minimum period before returning to group training is two weeks.

Although they would be able to resume individual work away from their team-mates on day eight, it is unlikely they would be able to take part in the match having had no contact with their team-mates for a fortnight prior to the game.

With exactly two weeks until the top-flight season resumes, numbers of positive tests have remained very low but climb from the zero recorded in the fourth set.

This news comes 14 days ahead of the first kick-off in the Premier League and is another significant boost for Project Restart.

Players are back in full-contact training and are working towards match fitness, and Thursday is set to see a number of important issues voted upon in the Premier League's weekly video call.

In total, the five rounds of tests taken from the Premier League between May 17 and June 3 has yielded a total of 13 positive tests from a sample size in excess of 4,900.
