The full extent of the closure of grassroots sports over the next month has been confirmed after Boris Johnson refused to allow exemptions for golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools and junior sports.

The prime minister said that to make such exceptions would reduce the effectiveness of the measures. However, amateur clubs have been cleared to play in this weekend’s FA Cup first round as it is seen as an elite competition. Facilities including gyms, pools, golf courses and driving ranges, climbing centres and shooting ranges will close from Thursday.
