For most people there is nothing beautiful about tractors.

But a bizarre New Year's celebration in Belarus injected the farming machine with magic... thanks to a performance of dancing tractors. 

The event to celebrate the start of 2017 was held in the historic centre of the Belarusian capital city of Minsk and staged by the Minsk Tractor Works - which claims to make one in 10 of the world's tractors.

Thousands of people braved the rain to attend the show which featured a range of the firm's tractors lit up with neon lights and dancing in formation.

It was intended as a spectacular finale to a year of celebrations to mark the firm's 70th anniversary in 2016.

Driven by expert drivers, the dancing tractors performed a waltz, a tango and even engaged in some disco dancing as the watching audience clapped along with the music.

The show featured music from Mikhail Finberg's National Academic Concert Orchestra of Belarus and a spectacular fireworks display.

Last year the firm's anniversary celebrations also included screening an award-winning film about tractors, The Breadwinner, at the Cannes film festival.

Minsk Tractor Works employs more than 18,500 people in Belarus and exports its tractors to more than 150 countries around the world.

It is one of the largest surviving manufacturers in Belarus following the collapse of the Soviet Union.
