LISTER WILDER OPEN NEW DEALERSHIP Near Southam in Warwickshire
One of Warwickshire’s most famous old brands has returned to the very spot where it started with the opening of Lister Wilder’s new Massey Ferguson dealership near Southam.
“It is very appropriate that the site we acquired for our new dealership is one where Massey Ferguson did its early testing,” says Lister Wilder Managing Director Ian Nutt. “We have been Ferguson agents for almost 70 years and, whilst the tractors are now built in France, Warwickshire will always be the home of the famous old name. The quality that Harry Ferguson engineered right here has never been lost.”
Expansion into Warwickshire marks a natural geographic progression for Lister Wilder, which has its head office at Wallingford in Oxfordshire and other branches at Cirencester, Reading, Guildford, Devizes, Bristol and Ashford in Kent. In addition to Massey Ferguson, it also holds two other premium tractor franchises with Fendt and Challenger, both of whom will be well represented at the new Southam branch.
The new 14,000 square feet premises with its spacious showroom, extensive parts storage and well-equipped repair workshops are on two acres of land acquired from local farmer Derek Hiatt. The site is ideally located at the centre of the new dealer area which stretches Lister Wilder’s traditional territory north to the M6 and east to the M1.
Lister Wilder dates from 1947 and has grown steadily over the past 30 years with an initial strategy of developing businesses along the M4 and M40 corridor. ACGO’s recent review of its dealer network gave the company the opportunity to expand into Warwickshire. “It is one the country’s great mixed farming areas with a strong arable base which is particularly relevant to us,” says Ian Nutt. “It nicely joins onto our existing territory and it is good to be in the backyard of AGCO’s UK headquarters.
