ROOT CAUSE OF CANCELLATION
Romsey Town make discovery on pitch
A tree root was discovered growing on Romsey Town's Bypass Ground which forced the cancellation of their Sydenhams Wessex Division One match against Amesbury Town on Saturday 6th December.
The Salisbury Journal reports that Romsey player Mark Kane spotted something unusual just outside the 18-yard box by one of the goals during a match for the reserves against Dorchester Town the Thursday night.

It is believed to be from a row of trees about 10 metres behind the goal.
Club secretary Clare Crossland told the paper, "We didn't know anything about it until one of the players (Mark) spotted something strange going on. We went to look at it with the groundsman and then the referee made an assessment before calling it off."
Manager of Amesbury Town said he didn't know what the problem with the pitch was until he heard it being discussed on BBC5Live later that night. He told the Salisbury Journal, "We were informed relatively early on Saturday that the game was off due to an issue with a tree and, given the weather, we just assumed that one had fallen onto the pitch. "It wasn’t until I heard the Radio 5 Live interview that I found out the full extent of the problem. It’s a strange one for sure but one that cannot be helped. I hope they can resolve the problem quickly and at little expense."
