TURF LIFE
. . a view from the dug-out

From the dug out

Following the amazing scenes at Gleneagles over the weekend for the Ryder Cup, massive congratulations to the greenkeeping team and volunteers who made it all look and play so incredibly well. For a behind the scenes glimpse at what goes into preparing the course for such a prestigious event, watch this great video put together by the Daily Telegraph.

Hednesford Town FC's pitch is being repeatedly targeted by some pesky foxes who keep digging holes, reports the Wolverhampton Express & Star. Scott Smith, office worker and volunteer at the club told the local paper, "I think they are digging the holes because they are looking for worms. For us it's not good. We are having to refill the holes and we had some work done on the pitch over the summer. They have been targeting the penalty box and touch line area of the pitch. Sometimes they dig out the same holes that we have filled in."

The Daily Mirror reports how a football match in the Combined Counties League between Staines Lammas FC and Chessington & Hook FC in Stanwell, Middlesex was abandoned after a player threatened rival players with a pitchfork which had been left out by the groundsman. The confrontation took place following a punch-up between two players - one from each side - who were shown red cards. As the pair went for an early bath, other footballers then began to brawl on the pitch, with one picking up the pitchfork. The paper reports that the incident has been reported to the Football Association, and a Surrey FA spokesman said: "The county FA is aware of the incident and is investigating the matter. We are unable to comment any further at this time."

And ahead of West Brom's 4-0 defeat of Burnley yesterday, Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville ran into a spot of bother with an automatic sprinkler!
