BIGGA & SYNGENTA TEAM UP
'Unlocking Golf’s True Potential'

Syngenta has joined forces with BIGGA to extend its project to support and help to revitalise the golf industry - Unlocking Golf’s True Potential.

The company has invested heavily in the future of golf, most recently through its series of surveys that have identified strong areas of potential demand for the sport.

BIGGA now say they are delighted to be working with Syngenta towards the successful implementation of the next phase of this activity to make golf courses more attractive places for all to play. The company has been long-term supporters of greenkeepers and the turf management industry as a whole.

Sustainability is the key to success in all aspects of the sport. The key initiatives that make up the Syngenta and BIGGA partnership include:

  • An education programme for greenkeepers on improving turf spray application techniques. This will assure the highest levels of stewardship and ensure greenkeepers get the best possible results from every application. It will be delivered via a series of Regional seminars and presentations alongside Best Practice articles in Greenkeeper International.
  • Promotion of Operation Pollinator – Syngenta’s nationwide environmental initiative to proactively create new habitats for bees and other pollinating insects, and make golf courses a more attractive place to play. The aim is to reinforce Operation Pollinator as the number one practical environmental initiative in golf.
  • Further surveys within the greenkeeping sector to provide industry insight that will help shape future practice.

Syngenta’s Caroline Carroll said, “Greenkeepers have an integral role in providing the playing surface quality, environmental features and facilities that will attract more people to play the game. Their actions are imperative in assuring the environmental and business sustainability of the clubs.

“Working closely with BIGGA at a Regional and National level will give greenkeepers access to our Research and Development resources and support services to help enhance what can be achieved.”

BIGGA CEO Jim Croxton said, "We will be seeking to engage our members at Regional and National level in Operation Pollinator and the importance of correct spray application.

“Unlocking the true potential of golf has never been more important, and this project is a step towards advancing the game through environmental sustainability.”
