SALMON TRAPPED ON GOLF COURSE RETURNED TO THE SPEY
Pool formed after heavy rain
It has been reported that a team from the Spey Fishery Board had to rescue some trapped salmon from a pool which had formed on Garmouth and Kingston Golf Club, Moray.
The water had gathered following two days of heavy rain which had resulted in water spilling over the river banks. According to The Press & Journal the pool was connected to the river, which is about 200 yards away, by a small burn that is usually only inches deep.

The report says it was believed that around 20 salmon had found themselves on the course, cut off from the river. After being spotted by a greenkeeper, a team from the Spey Fishery Board used nets to catch the fish in order to return them to the river.
Roger Knight, director of the Spey Fishery Board, told The Press & Journal, "The channel isn’t a path the river ordinarily takes, but when it bursts its banks, it’s known to go down this particular stretch of water, which is otherwise a dried-out burn.
“During that time, a number of fish went down there. As the water has receded, it has left some pools, which they have not been able to escape from."
At the time of speaking to the local paper last Friday (June 16th) Roger Knight said the team had already returned eight fish and were preparing to return to catch those remaining.
