DREAM GLENEAGLES JOB FOR TEENAGE GREENKEEPER
Many congratulations to teenage greenkeeper Ollie King from West Sussex who has moved jobs from his local course to Gleneagles.
The East Anglian Daily Times reported how it has been a remarkably swift rise for the 17-year-old who had spent little more than a year learning his trade as an apprentice on the comparatively modest surroundings of the Clare Park Lake 9-hole, par 3 golf course in Suffolk.
“You can’t really compare it,” Ollie told the paper. “Clare is so small – you can fit all of Clare’s holes into one of Gleneagles’ holes. It’s a totally different world here, it’s amazing. It’s definitely my dream job.”
Having maintained the course at Clare single-handedly, Ollie is now part of a 16-strong team tending to the various courses at Gleneagles, where he stays in staff accommodation at the hotel.
He has initially signed a six-month contract, which expires in October, although may be taken on for more work. (East Anglian Daily Times)
BRISTOL ROVERS STADIUM MOVE DELAYED A YEAR
It has been reported that Bristol Rovers' move to their new stadium has been delayed by a year. Chairman Nick Higgs has revealed to the Bristol Post that the club will not be going to their new home beside the University of the West of England at Stoke Gifford until the start of the 2016/17 season.
Mr Higgs blamed the delay on the judicial review mounted by TRASHorfield who were against a Sainsbury's supermarket being built on the site of Rovers' current home at the Memorial Stadium.
When that failed there was an attempt by a supporter of TRASHorfield to get the Memorial Ground listed as a war memorial.
But the application was rejected by English Heritage.
Mr Higgs said: "We have missed the start of the 2015/16 season now for the stadium to be ready. The appeals stopped work on the scheme until they were resolved.
"In all, the delays have taken us back to where we were last autumn before the judicial review was launched.
"It has cost us a year and about £1.5 million so far. We hope to get the building work started sometime this year." (Bristol Post)
