TURF LIFE
. . a view from the dug-out
Gazza was on the BT Sport build-up programme before the Spurs v West Ham 2-all draw yesterday, thankfully looking OK. He told some cracking anecdotes, none more so than the time he arrived at Tottenham and spoke to the groundsman who was concerned about pigeons in the stand roof. Gazza took it upon himself to help, climbing up onto a roof where he heard a 'coo-coo' coming from. Gazza said, " I thought I've got it. Then I heard the roof go 'crack' and fell through it. 30 feet! I had a bruise all the way down my arm, down my shoulder and leg. I saw the manager and said, 'Gaffer I don't think I can train today'. He says, 'What for?' I says, 'A pigeon did it.'"

Jack Friar, head greenkeeper of Percy Wood Golf Club, Morpeth in Northumberland was the lucky winner of Rigby Taylor's recent show competition. From a large number of entries, Jack's name was the first to be drawn and he was presented with a brand new OptiM8 Professional spreader by Rigby Taylor representative Glen Baxter.
Jack commented, "This prize is really welcome as only recently we had our spreader stolen, so the replacement could not have come at a better time."
And finally, Hollywood superstar Russell Crowe missed the entertainment industry's most important night of the year last night. Rather than walk down the red carpet in Los Angeles for the Oscar ceremony, Russell was watching his South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team which he co-owns, thrash St Helens in the World Club Challenge 0-39.
Watch an on-pitch interview with Russell from the BBC here.
