First brought to my attention via Golf Club Management's website, a fundraising campaign for severely ill golf course manager, Michael Mosse, has emphasised what a close-knit, caring and generous industry this is. Over £17,000 of an intended £20,000 target has already been raised by concerned friends, family and colleagues.
Mike as he's known, was the course manager at Dale Hill Hotel and Golf Club in East Sussex for many years. On his fundraising page his partner, Angela Wright, says how Mike was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2011 and following months of gruelling treatment he was free of the disease for a year.

However in May 2014, on Mike's 50th birthday, he was told it had returned. After 14 weeks of chemo and radiotherapy, it did not disappear. It has now spread and Angela says Mike has about 9-12 months "left to stay with us".
Mike has been to Holland and more recently Germany, for specialist treatment not available in the UK. The money being raised will help continue this treatment.
Angela says, "Mike is the most caring person I know and always puts others first. He has spent the last four years looking after his parents, who sadly are no longer with us. He has done this whilst going through his own treatment.
"If you can help us raise these much needed funds we would be forever grateful."
The fact that donations are already over £17,000 says an awful lot about the the high regard and respect which fellow professionals hold each other in.
Everyone knows someone who has been affected by this despicable disease. So one feels that donations to an individual's treatment, or to the wider field of cancer research, is all you can do to show your abhorrence of it.
Mike himself has offered an update on his GoGetFunding page. He says, "The last few weeks have been very tough. The pain is now very bad and I'm very weak, I am in fact having my second of 2 infusions of 3000 calories to help perk me up a bit. I have just had my blood test results back to see if I am positive for the auto-immune drug PD1 and at the moment I can't yet have it as my immune system, to put it bluntly is 'shot to bits', due to all the chemo and radiotherapy.
"On a different note, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone, all my friends, family, everyone from Dale Hill and even strangers for all your support so far, I have been genuinely humbled, the comments have been so lovely and they have really cheered me up during what has been and is sometimes a very dark and lonely place. Thank you all."
