TURF LIFE
. . a view from the dug-out

From the dug out
Saturday's non-league match in the Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier division between Brockenhurst FC and Bournemouth Poppies was called off at the last minute for an unusual reason. Pre-game, volunteer groundstaff were rolling the pitch when the heavy-roller got away from them and crashed into a set of goalposts, pretty much destroying them.

Pete Lynes, chairman of Brockenhurst FC, told The Daily Mail 'I heard about it on the day itself and at first I didn't believe it. But when I went down I saw the damage to the post and I immediately telephoned the manufacturers to see if they would be able to provide replacements. But they could not deliver new ones until the middle of next week, so we had to call the game off."

Over here I guess the odd over-zealous swan or a mischievous fox can cause some disruption on the fairways. However, at least we don't have to contend with monsters like this dinosaur-sized alligator which was spotted wondering around Myakka Pines Golf Course in Englewood, Florida last week!

And continuing the theme of scary beasts lurking on U.S courses, greens superintendent at the Deerwood Club in Kingwood, Texas, Ed Martinez, Tweeted this picture on Friday, explaining why he wasn't changing one particular green's cup that day!
