IOG LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE COURSES
Helping managers 'Learn to Lead'
The Institute of Groundsmanship (IOG) has introduced a series of online modular management courses that will enable managers and supervisors to lead their team successfully.
The new learning route is designed to help to support and develop those managers who have been promoted into management positions without any formal training or experience in issues that are ‘non turf-related’ by offering:
- A detailed insight into the skills needed to lead, build and manage a team, including the development of coaching skills;
- An improvement in personal management performance to enhance team motivation; and
- A way to review practices to meet the challenges involved, by creating better ideas and solutions
“With ever-increasing demands being made on budgets and time resources, getting the most from an entire team is essential,” says IOG head of learning, Chris Gray. “This course will help managers do exactly that, enabling them to gain new skills and approaches that will help them to successfully lead teams of any size.”
IOG chief executive, Geoff Webb, added: “This course fits perfectly with the IOG’s drive to widen the scope of training we offer. The role of groundsmanship is ever changing and we encourage those who have yet to undertake such training to sign up.”
The five modules - team motivation, coaching skills, encouraging new ideas, managing meetings and supporting team performance – can be studied individually for the IOG Level 3 Certificate in Supervisory Management, totalling around 150 hours of learning. The resulting workbook can subsequently also be put forward for accreditation to the Lantra Awards Level 3 Certificate in Leading and Managing Teams in Land-based Establishments. Alternatively, learners can enrol onto the Lantra Certificate without building up individual modules.
The course can extend across nine months at a pace that suits the individual and is based on distance/home study learning, with tutor support primarily by email.
