TURF LIFE
. . a view from the dug-out

GREENS staff had to keep an extra look out at Heaton Moor Golf Course in Stockport recently when businessman Tony Coleshill got fed up with his partner Chris Antoniou taking so much time off from their jointly-owned print business to play golf. He decided to end the business relationship and moreover removed Chris’s desk, chair, computer, keyboard, screen, waste paper basket, filing cabinet and even personalised coffee cup  – and installed them alongside the 10th green at the course.

THE turfcare industry as a whole will wish Peter Mansfield all the very best as he heads off in retirement after completing more than 30 years with the Toro turfcare division at Lely UK. Quiet, considered and completely focussed, Peter was instrumental in not only helping to build the Toro brand across the UK, but was very involved in working with show organisers, trade associations and others to build the awareness and status of the turfcare sector. Thank you Peter!

WHILST the greens staff were getting ready for the resumption of the recent PGA Championship at Valhalla, winner Rory McIlroy was pictured by a TV crew punching the passcode into his mobile phone for all the see. It didn’t take long for Rory to realise the mistake and tweet that he had changed the code in a flash

LAST Saturday a fan ran onto the pitch at the West Ham game against Spurs – and took a free kick that had been set up by the referee just outside the penalty area – a shot that was saved by the WHUFC goalkeeper. Meanwhile in the Copa Perú – a series of league tournaments that offer the winner and runner-up promotion to the nation’s first and second divisions – a match between Minsa FBC and Expreso Inambari in the rural south-east was brought to a halt by cattle from a neighbouring field. Perhaps the overgrown pitch –the substandard facilities is evidence of the lack of investment in the deprived regions – invited the cows on, or maybe they were just excited. Either way, with the help of some dogs, they were soon shooed away and the match was able to resume.  WATCH VIDEO
