GREENKEEPER CALLS IT A DAY AFTER 40 YEARS
Campbell Wallace of Wishaw Golf Club

A Wishaw greenkeeper has decided to call it a day after 40 years of service, reports The Daily Record.

Campbell Wallace has kept Wishaw Golf Club looking spick and span for four decades.

However, the 63-year-old will now look after number one as he enjoys retirement following a lifetime dedicated to golf.

Campbell said: “I’ve had a great time doing the job but the time felt right to call it a day. You’ll never be a millionaire being a greenkeeper but you will get a lot of job satisfaction and that’s what it’s all about.

“When I was 15 I left school on the Friday and by Monday I was helping out at Shotts Golf Club.

“I thought ‘this will do me until I find something else’ and ended up really enjoying it.

“I went down south helping set up golf courses and then when I came back up to Wishaw I became the greenkeeper. I’ve met a lot of great people working at the club and it's been a great experience.”
