Lee Strutt, Course Manager at the gWest, Perthshire resort course in Scotland, has become the first turf manager ever to hold a hat trick of top industry qualifications accredited by three worldwide greenkeeping bodies. Lee is already a Master Greenkeeper with BIGGA and a Certified Golf Course Superintendent with the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). Now he’s become the first greenkeeper in history to achieve a third award, the Master Superintendent (MS) from the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association (CGSA).

Loose horses on the run have landed Calverley Golf Club with a £100,000 repair bill and have left the greens looking "more like Wetherby racecourse than a golf course," reports the Bradford Telegrapgh and Argus. The club has now got the police involved the paper reports, as they fear that a fence is being deliberately cut and the horses ushered through to do the damage. Three out of the club's 18 holes have now been severely damaged by hooves, which means golfers cannot complete the full round. Watch a video of the equine vandalism here.
An American national working as a greenkeeper at the Old Course at St Andrews was jailed last week over a pub fight sparked by an argument over science. The Herald Scotland reports that Kevin Rundstrom violently attacked Guy Whitworth at a pub in St Andrews last June in a row which started about the TV series The Big Bang Theory. The court heard the row escalated with regards who knew more about science and ended with Mr Whitworth receiving a laceration to his neck and cheek. Rundstrom now has no right to remain in the UK and is facing deportation after serving his 21 month sentence.
And finally, French Ligue 1 side Reims received some unwanted bad publicity for the state of their pitch for their game against Lorient on Saturday evening. Some wags on Twitter said it looked like it had been put together from the laminate flooring section in Homebase! And it certainly didn't give them home advantage, as they ended up going down 3-1.
