TURF LIFE
. . a view from the dug-out
The funeral of former Lancashire CCC head groundsman, Peter Marron, took place last Thursday. Peter, 59 passed away earlier this month following complications arising from treatment for cancer. The Manchester Evening News reported that his funeral was attended by Ex Manchester United and Manchester City bosses Sir Alex Ferguson and Peter Reid, as well as a host of cricketers past and present including Neil Fairbrother. Peter Reid posted on Twitter, "Said goodbye to a great character and pal Pete Marron. RIP."
Golf Course Superintendent Adam Garr, of Plum Hollow Country Club in South East Michigan, has posted an amazing video on YouTube, illustrating all the process gone through to wake his course from a hard winter ready for spring play. Adam (who is on Twitter and Superin10dent on YouTube) says, "I dedicated 6 weeks in March and April to shoot it and 3 weeks in May to edit. All told, there are 216 shots crammed into 6 minutes."
Click to view The 5 minute clip utilises loads of very cool GoPro footage and many shots taken using a drone flying over his course. The results are a very stylish and watchable insight into what it takes to get a course ready for play following months of harsh weather.
And finally, check out this photo which was doing the rounds on Reddit and Twitter of a golf green flag which was struck by lightening in Utah!
