TURFPRO READERS VOTE LEAVE
In our EU Referendum survey
by TurfPro Editor, Steve Gibbs
Last week we asked you our readers how you currently intend to vote on June 23rd in the EU Referendum. A sample of a fraction under 50 of you took part.
Overall the majority of respondents voted in favour of leaving the EU by a signifcant majority of 63.8% to 36.2%.
We were also interested in finding out how our readers across the individual home nations felt about leaving or remaining in the EU. Sample numbers from England were good with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland being much lower (Wales and Northern Ireland considerably so).
In England, 69% voted to leave with 31% choosing to remain.
Scotland was actually the only home nation whose respondents to our survey voted in favour of remaining part of the EU, with 57% in favour compared to 43% who wished to leave.

Wales was split equally, with a 50-50 vote.
And finally, Northern Ireland also had an even 50-50 split in our results.

We also were interested to get a sense of who was voting in our anonymous poll and asked what section of the industry you represented - Turf Professional, dealer, manufacturer or other. The largest group of respondents identified themselves as 'Other' (40%), Turf Professionals represented 37.8%, dealers 13.3% and manufacturers 8.9%.

We also asked an optional question of how you believed a possible exit from the EU could affect our industry. You can read a selection of your thoughts here.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our poll. We always highly value receiving input from our readers and believe our TurfPro community enjoys discovering what their contemporaries are feeling on a particular issue.
Obviously with any poll its accuracy in reflecting a particular group's view point is entirely dependent on who joins in - it's natural for those with strong opinions on the matter to want to be heard. Whilst those who are either not engaged in the debate yet, or are undecided, don't speak up.
However, from our sample we have a definite answer. I personally expected the result would be a lot closer. But according to the results of our survey, a clear majority of our industry wants the UK to exit the EU.
We also undertook a similar survey on our Service Dealer newsletter last week which we just send to specialist outdoor powered machinery dealers and manufacturers/distributors. Whilst the result was the same there with the majority voting in favour of leaving the EU, the margin of victory was slightly less with 56.7% saying leave compared to 43.3% saying remain.
So it'll be fascinating on June 24th to see how closely our results match up to the one that counts.
