BRENTFORD RELAY PITCH
Following postponement of fixture

Brentford's newly laid pitch
Brentford FC played their first game on their newly laid pitch on Saturday, after it was described as a 'disaster' following their opening fixture.

Head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen had described the surface, which underwent drainage works this summer, as "a disaster, awful and unbelievable" following how it played in the opening day 2-2 draw against Ipswich.

Brentford were subsequently forced to postpone a mid-week fixture against Birmingham until the end of Spetember, in order to lay the new surface.

The new Motz surface was laid from Monday to Wednesday last week in time for the Club’s Sky Bet Championship  fixture with Reading, which they lost 1-3.

The new turf was laid to schedule over a three day period, despite the severe weather conditions encountered earlier in the week. The club said the recent above average rainfall was of benefit to the new playing surface as it began the process of bedding in.

The Club appointed a specialist to work alongside their own operations team. The new surface combines natural grass with artificial fibres in the hope of negating the need to re-turf again during this season.

Operations Manager Alan Walsh said: “The project was completed on schedule and we are pleased with the outcome. The coaching staff and players were able to use the pitch for a training session before Saturday’s game in order to give them a chance to be accustomed to the new surface."

County Turf Operations Director Chris Medley, whose turf was chosen for the re-lay, said: “We are happy with the installation and completion of this project for Brentford FC. The recent rainy weather has aided the pitch and will help to give it a solid foundation for its continued use throughout the season.”
