INDUSTRY PAYS TRIBUTE TO CHRIS
Founder of TurfPro steps down

Founder of TurfPro and our sister title Service Dealer, Chris Biddle, has stepped down as editor of that publication - following 27 years of dedication to the UK independent dealer trade.

Chris & Trish Biddle

Major figures from across the industry have come forward to pay their tributes to Chris:

Ian Small, Sales and Marketing Manager, Briggs and Stratton UK
"Chris has been the voice of the industry - informing, educating and inspiring for over 27 years but most of all he is a true gentleman"

Les Malin, Operations Director, ETESIA UK LTD:
"Chris has a knowledge of this industry that knows no boundaries. His articles are always fair and to the point, his enthusiasm limitless. Enjoy a well-earned retirement."

David Sturges, CEO, Godfreys
'The voice of our industry for over 27 years'

Alan Prickett, Managing Director, Ransomes Jacobsen
"Chris has been a fantastic advocate for the specialist grass machinery trade for as long as most of us can remember. His tireless championing of innovation, business ethics and fair-play have had a positive influence on the industry as a whole.
There are few people with Chris's level of industry knowledge, whether current or historic, or with the sheer number of contacts and friends within manufacturing businesses and dealerships. His ability to act as a dealer advocate with manufacturers has helped to create some of the great trade relationships we see across the UK now."

Robin Lennie, Managing Director, STIHL UK
"Chris has the ability to look like he isn't paying any attention to what is going on and then write the most relevant editorial piece."

Martyn Thomas, Chervon Europe Ltd
"Chris has the great ability to get to the real story behind the facts. Always informative and forever armed with his camera!"

Jake Vowles, Director General, Agricultural Engineers Association-1988/2007
"Chris has provided the most valuable source of information communicating to everyone the successes and failures of the industry, the mergers and acquisitions of the companies and commenting on the people who make this such a great industry. His legacy will be a record of the last 30 years".

David Ashcroft, Cyril Johnston and Gardencare
"Cyril Johnston, Northern Ireland has been working with Chris since the late 70's when he imported Rover Mowers. Always a pleasure to work with, a great thinker, visionary & supporter of our industry. Chris your next challenge - to play Royal Portrush golf course, the 2019 home of The Open. Bring a bag full of balls!"

Jeremy Coleclough, Founder, OPICO Ltd
"A Blinder of an innings from Biddle.
"For many of us, Chris is the man who stood out, because he caredfor, loved and looked after our industry with immense and never ending enthusiasm. Heavens know how many miles he drove and how many Press releases he rewrote and how many events he reported on. Always there, and always with a smile and that curiosity. Have a superb retirement. Job well done... With every good wish Jeremy Coleclough"

James Woolway, Managing Director, OPICO Limited
"Chris is a proper Journalist/Editor, he has his finger on the pulse, great relationships around the industry and is probably the best wordsmith in the agricultural industry."

Dave Roberts, Managing Director, Kubota (U.K.) Ltd
"On behalf of Kubota UK and from myself personally, I would like to thank Chris for his friendship and contribution to the UK Ag and Groundcare machinery sectors that are so important to us. He has made a great contribution to the continual development of the relationship between manufacturers, dealer community, and our end user customers and that will be an enduring legacy in the industry.
"We wish Chris and his family all the best for the future, but we also hope Chris will not be able to resist attending the various industry shows and events, and we look forward to seeing him then!"

David W Jenkins, Managing Director, DJ Turfcare Equipment Ltd.
Original:
"Chris has been one of those people that you could always rely on to take an industry wide view of many subjects. They range from the latest EU directive on lawn mowers to how to make lawn mower dealerships more efficient and how they can most effectively compete with the sheds. His ideas and over view have always been worth considering even if you did not always agree with him. The name he gave to his magazine Service Dealer underlines his constant emphasis on good service being the Key to success. He has always been a family man and we wish him and his family a happy time during his retirement."

Darren Spencer, European Manager,Ariens UK
"For over 27 years Chris has been a key face and voice of the outdoor power equipment industry, a passionate champion for manufacturer and dealer alike. An ardent supporter of both manufacturers and dealers, combining unique insight and understanding of both sides of the product relationship, Chris's writing has educated multiple generations. He represents the very best of what this business is all about - great relationships. The Ariens UK team are hugely grateful for the support Chris has shown our business, products and customers over 25+ years."

Duncan Martin, Managing Director, GGP UK Limited
"Concentrating the contribution Chris Biddle has made to the UK specialist Garden Machinery into a personal quote is so difficult, he has always been at the forefront promoting the unique benefits provided by the industry and through these efforts has often been the adhesive that kept the industry working together, we will all miss Chris and wish him and the long suffering Trish Biddle a happy retirement together."

Kim Macfie, Retired Sales & Marketing Director, Hayter Ltd. and Past President, AEA
"It is said that life begins at 40 and it was about then that Chris fulfilled his lifetime ambition and became a full-time journalist. Since then he has probed, pushed, encouraged, promoted and enhanced our industry - and its people - with a distinction that is universally admired. Thank you Chris, your contribution has been greatly appreciated".

Keith Christian, Director of BAGMA
"Every industry needs a 'face' or a point of reference and Chris has been the face and voice of our industry for many years. He has kept the industry on the right page and provided a gentle nudge in the right direction when needed as well as keeping us informed about what is going on under our noses. My thanks Chris for the many years you have helped me out and put up with me, keep it up!"

Mark Earles, Makita (UK)
"Chris's talent as an editor has created a publication in Service Dealer that is unique, the information about the industry could only come from someone who has a genuine passion for it. When we visit dealers and contractors we often hear "have you seen ??? in Service Dealer?" This shows the readership looks forward to receiving their copy.
"I think he has created something other industries would crave for."
