In one of their busiest early summers they have been installing drainage at racecourses and on football pitches while building bunkers and paths at golf clubs.

At Lingfield Park Racecourse they have installed more than 200 metres of primary and secondary drainage on the back straight – using mixed cutting chains on the Mastenbroek trencher that included tungsten ‘pecks’.

“This is what I like to call ‘ When the going gets tough, Speedcut gets going’,” says contracts manager Barry Pace. “The conditions were fairly challenging, being silty clay over sandstone - but the results will make this stretch of the course a lot better in wet weather conditions.”

At Plumpton Racecourse in West Sussex Speedcut have also completed primary and secondary drainage on the famous Station Bend of the circuit.

Tavistock Community Football Club has had a return visit from Speedcut, who built 3.6hectares of pitches two years ago. Now they have sandmastered and verti-drained the pitches, which have worn in well and are heavily used by local teams.

And at Dulwich Prep School they have replaced main drains on the sports grounds, including a cricket outfield and a football pitch.

Golf work was completed at Silvermere Golf Club, near Chertsey in Surrey where Speedcut have been carrying out reshaping and reconstruction on bunkers from holes one to six and hole 17 with the remainder scheduled for improvement in the autumn.

Working closely with the greenkeeping team, Speedcut have been carrying out a full refurbishment of the driving range in readiness for the opening of a new two-storey range building.
The driving range, which will be ranked as one of the finest in the UK, is being drained and regraded and is having an artificial target green installed along with nine artificial bunkers, together with lighting 'berms' (mounds to conceal lights).

At Lingfield Park Golf Club in Surrey, next to the racecourse, Speedcut have removed two dangerous storm-damaged bridges and replaced them with a new bridge deck incorporating foundations designed to protect from erosion risk.

And at Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire Speedcut are continuing construction of a private golf studio for a leading golf professional.
