TURF LIFE
. . a view from the dug-out

From the dug out

Here's a fascinating video from Boston news station WHDH, which shows how the groundskeeper of the Red Sox got his pitch ready for the first game of the season. This comes following a winter where the turf was buried under mountains of snow for weeks on end.
Clearing The Way

Poole Town boss Tom Killick found a novel way to get around a 6 game stadium-ban recently - he watched the games from the skylight window of the groundsman's nearby house. Killick had received the ban for improper conduct in the Evo Stick Southern League. He told the Bournemouth Echo, "I can pretty much see the whole pitch apart from the goalmouth at the end I watch it from. It is quite a good vantage point but being detached from the players makes life difficult."

And the phrase 'You had one job' has become somewhat of an internet meme - implying an incompetence at not even being able to get that right. Well, 'groundsman' was added to this trend this past week with the below picture posted on Twitter by Melbourne-based groundsman Matthew Oliver.
