GREENKEEPER WINS PHOTO COMP
With shot of the Northern Lights
Darren Chisholm, Greenkeeper at Castle Stuart Golf Links, has won the BIGGA Photographic Competition 2015 with a shot of the Northern Lights over the club’s iconic clubhouse.
 Darren's winning picture
Keen amateur photographer Darren took the winning image at around 11pm on a clear night in February – with a little help from his car headlights! His shot attracted the most votes from BIGGA members, with the next 11 being included in next year’s BIGGA Calendar. Those 11 with the next highest votes were as follows: - James Bledge of Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club
- Leigh Powell of Hockley Golf Club
- Chris Brown of Gleneagles
- Ross Jones of Billingbear Park Golf Course
- Ian Chenery of Woodbury Park Golf Club
- Noel Smith of Burnham and Berrow Golf Club
- Graeme Roberts of Camberley Heath Golf Club
- Stewart Grant of Sunningdale Golf Club
- Ian Brodie of Affiliate Member
- John Parry of Wrexham Golf Club
- Ryun Holden of Golf Club Wylihof
Darren will receive the prize of an iPad and will be presented as the winner at the BTME 2016 Welcome Celebration. Darren told the BIGGA website, "I usually try and take pictures of the Northern Lights about half a mile away from the golf course, but on that particular night I thought I’d have a go at taking one with the Lights and the clubhouse in too.“I wasn’t sure how it had worked out and I never expected to win, but I’m very happy people liked it. I’m shortly heading off to work at a club in Australia for six months which will be great experience, and the iPad should keep me occupied on the long flight!” Darren used his Nikon DC100 camera with a 15 second exposure. He used an ISO setting (which controls the sensitivity of the shot) of 500 with a specification of F5.
Darren's win also gained him and BIGGA some good coverage on the BBC.
