TURF LIFE
. . a view from the dug-out
Partick Thistle winger Kallum Higginbotham has spoken out against artificial playing surfaces after two players were injured at Hamilton Academical’s New Douglas Park ground during the teams' 1-1 draw on Saturday. Hamilton defender Mikey Devlin was the first off the pitch after suspected ligament damage after twisting his knee on what the Daily Record described as a "badly-worn carpet". Later Thistle midfielder Ryan Stevenson, was helped off after apparently getting his studs stuck in the surface. Higginbotham expressed his displeasure of artificial turf to the Daily Record saying, "It is hard to get any sort of game going on that surface. I have never approved of plastic pitches and never will. It is just not for me. "The boy from Hamilton took a sore one and that was down to the pitch. His foot has got jarred in the pitch." Higginbotham continued on the subject of artificial pitches saying, "The more and more you bring them in, the more the game is going to go downhill. I’m not sure if I could play for a club who play on an artificial pitch."
Delightful story from Lynn News about Stephen Donoclift, of SER Grounds Maintenance, groundsman of his local primary school, who as well as tending the football pitch has sponsored a new kit for the team. Stephen tells the local paper, "We are very proud of our team taking on the challenge of playing another school, and hopefully it will encourage other schools to play us. It’s a case of throwing down the gauntlet and, win or lose, bring it on!" And finally, the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass took place this weekend, with Rickie Fowler winning over Sergio Garcia. Praise was also in order for the greens crew, which included some winning BIGGA members from the UK, who not only killed it with their course preparation, but also with this flash-mob rendition of Uptown Funk which was posted online on Saturday.
