NIGEL STEPS DOWN AFTER 25 YEARS
Hampshire groundsman retires
Following last week's game against Yorkshire, Nigel Gray has left the head groundsman post at the Ageas Bowl.
Nigel who had been with Hampshire CCC for 25 years will however stay on with the club in a consultancy role.
The club presented Nigel with a special gift during a ceremony on the final day of Hampshire's last home four-day fixture of the season.
Nigel told the Southern Daily Echo, "I’ll be helping with the transition period. Hopefully after that I can spend more time with my wife and not have to worry about the weather forecast so much!”
In 2012 Nigel became only the third groundsman in Hampshire Cricket history to be awarded a testimonial, after Jesse Hopkins (1922) and Ernie Knights (1975). Having joined Hampshire in 1989, he oversaw the county’s move from Northlands Road and has played a key role in developing the Ageas Bowl into a Test stadium.
