B&S FIND UK'S WORST PITCHES
Pitch To Win finalists named

Throughout 2015 the IOG has been working alongside Briggs & Stratton to find the amateur sports team whose pitches were most in need of a makeover.

Pitch to Win is a competition that gives away over £12,000 worth of pitch makeovers to football, cricket and rugby league teams.

Briggs & Stratton's Ian Small presents the cheque to Bury Broncos rugby team

Earlier this year it was reported that the winning football team was Clifford Juniors from Yorkshire, now the remaining results have been announced.

The winning rugby league club was Bury Broncos and the cricket team was Normanby Park from Scunthorpe. Each team will receive £3,000 to renovate its pitch, along with expert advice from the IOG who will recommend the best way to treat problems and renovate the turf.

In total nine teams received a cash prize, as well as a brand new kit and pitchside sponsorship from Briggs & Stratton. The nine teams were:-

  • Football – (1st) Clifford Juniors, (2nd) Gilmorton FC, (3rd) Haunchwood Sports
  • Cricket – (1st) Normanby Park, (2nd) Salesbury Cricket Club, (3rd) Eight Ash Green
  • Rugby League – (1st) Bury Broncos, (2nd) Thatto Heath, (3rd) Westhoughton Lions

Ian Small, sales and marketing manager for Briggs & Stratton UK, commented: “Judging was not easy – the level of entries was staggering and the standard of some of the pitches really was alarming. It’s great to be able to help out teams at a grassroots level and I can’t wait to see how the pitches look when the work is complete”.

The three winners will now battle it out to decide who has the worst pitch in the country to win a further £1,000 winter maintenance top up and be crowned the overall winner.
