UPDATE: SERVICE DEALER AND TURF PRO 25th Anniversary will be an opportunity to look back - and forward by Chris Biddle
When I decided to take a back-seat last year, writes Chris Biddle, we agreed to combine Service Dealer with Turf Pro to establish a magazine that would provide everyone in the turfcare sector, whether they be user, operator, dealer or supplier with a first-rate magazine that reflected all interests.
Under the editorship of Scott MacCallum, formerly editor of Greenkeeper International, aided by the design skills of Tim Moat, the combined title will shortly be into it's fifth issue and has been received very postively throughout the industry. It looks new, fresh and is packed with relevant information - and with a new website to support it will go from strength to strength in 2013.
However, I am also aware that a significant number of loyal Service Dealer readers and advertisers feel that they have lost something in the merger of the magazines.
In honesty, we had reached a stage where the production of a monthly printed magazine, Service Dealer, was not sustainable given the reducing number of advertisers through consolidations. Also the introduction of this weekly newsletter two years ago meant that we are able to provide news and information much faster than we can ever do in print
So Turf Pro incorporating Service Dealer is an ideal magazine, with superb features, for dealers and suppliers who wish to reach end-users in the golf, sportsground, amenity, landscape and contractor market.
But, I have decided that in this 25th Anniversary Year we will re-introduce many of the business-to-business features that were a previous feature of Service Dealer. Business information and business intelligence, business planning, use of marketing, display ideas and incorporating social media - as well as the specially requested return of a dealer-written Diary of the Season.
This will be achieved through additional business coverage in this weekly newsletter, Service Dealer Update, the introduction of a Service Dealer Business website later this month - and the publication of a quarterly Service Dealer Business magazine (Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter) each focussing on a specific key business area.
More details will be provided over the next couple of weeks, as will ongoing reflection of the past 25 years.
