The world's best-selling cut-off saw brand, STIHL is revolutionising the sector once again with the world's first 12" cut-off saw with electronic fuel injection: the STIHL TS 480i available now.
STIHL launched the world's first ever handheld power tool to feature electronic fuel injection in 2012, and the 14" TS 500i cut-off saw set the new technological standard for construction power tools. Now that technology is also powering Britain's most popular cut-off saw format, and the new STIHL TS 480i is the most advanced ever 12" model - available now.
Easy and responsive, right from the off
The new TS 480i may look and indeed feel like the popular STIHL TS 410, with the same familiar balance and trusted design, however significant differences become apparent the moment you work with the new cut-off saw. For a start, advanced STIHL Injection technology means there is no more choke or fiddling between warm and cold starts, as the system automatically senses the engine state and adjusts delivery of fuel to match. In practice that means the new cut-off saw start-up involves just three simple steps : purge the fuel primer, flick the 'on' switch, pull on the starter cord to fire up and go. Users will then notice the immediate pick-up and very good acceleration of the engine, so that as soon as it fires, it is ready to work.
20% more cutting performance, greater productivity
Another great benefit that users will find is the new STIHL TS 480i's superb cutting power. Cutting performance is in fact, a full 20% greater than the already impressive and legendary STIHL TS 410/410A cut-off saws. With cuts being made more swiftly it is easy to increase productivity at work, whilst running costs can be reduced as more cuts can be achieved using the same volume of fuel.
Significantly less vibration, familiar features and handling
A more (or should that be 'less') noticeable benefit of the new cut-off saw, and another positive outcome of the new engine technology, is the TS 480i's minimal vibrations. As low as 2.2m/s2 in fact, which means users can work comfortably throughout an 8-hour day within EU Vibration guidelines. Whilst the new cut-off saw may be packed with new technology, it has been set in the familiar compact and well-balanced design of STIHL's best-selling models. Impressively the technology adds just a mere one gramme of weight compared to the TS 410A model. More familiar features include electronic water control for easy dust suppression at the touch of a button, plus the efficient STIHL long-life air filter system with cyclonic pre-filtration, which minimises user maintenance.
Enhanced fuel tolerance
Varying ethanol fuel mixes and the effect that they can have on engine performance is an increasing concern for many power tool operators. But it will be no concern with the new TS 480i cut-off saw. Thanks to its electronic monitoring and self-adjustment, the engine automatically adapts to different ethanol fuel levels - of up to 25% (E25) in fact. That not only assures consistent running performance it minimises potential faults.
Service time-savings with fault diagnosis tool
Another great benefit of the advanced engine technology can be found in the workshop as it has servicing benefits too. The electronic fuel injection system means early fault detection is possible, enabling potential preventive action. Running faults, irregularities or loose contacts are recorded in the system's memory and can be retrieved and investigated using a special accessory diagnostic tool. Electronic fault diagnosis now takes just 15 minutes, and where faults may previously have gone unnoticed until a part failed, they can be detected and dealt with earlier, thus reducing downtimes. And that has to be a significant benefit for hire or fleet operators with their own servicing teams.
