Agricultural engineering students at Harper Adams University have been awarded 18 scholarships.

The recipients received their awards during the university's annual Development Trust Scholarship Presentation, which was held recently in the Queen Mother Hall on the Shropshire campus.

During the day, a total of 99 awards were presented to students totalling £225,000 - a 33 per cent increase on the previous year.

Miles Metcalfe, 22, of Hornby, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, was awarded The CLAAS Scholarship. CLAAS selects a student in partnership with Harper Adams during the first quarter of their second year. The recipient is required to take their work placement with CLAAS and is awarded £3,000 in their second year and subsequent years. Miles returned from his placement last September.

David McBride, 18, of Monaghan, County Monaghan, The Republic of Ireland, is studyin gBEng / BEng (Hons) Agricultural Engineering and was a recipient of The McConnel Scholarship. The scholarship is open to all first year BEng / MEng or FdSc Engineering students studying at Harper Adams with David receiving a one-off payment of £1,000.

Thomas Lindley, 20, from Ipswich, Suffolk, who is studying a MEng in Agricultural Engineering, was awarded a Douglas Bomford Trust Scholarship. The scholarship is offered to all second year BEng / MEng / BSc or first year FdSc Engineering students studying at Harper Adams. Thomas receives payments for each of the academic years of his course valued up to £1,000.
