MAKITA’S NEW 4-STROKE POLE HEDGE TRIMMER
With gear drive

  • Low operating costs from clean 4-stroke 25cc engine
  • 49cm blade folds flat for safe transport
  • 13 angle settings through 135°

Makita’s new and rugged long-reach pole hedge trimmer, the EN4950H, features a new gear drive transmission which converts the rotary shaft drive into cutting strokes for the 49cm long blade.

This robust gear drive system can handle far greater power loading than the traditional rotating disc assembly, which often proves the Achilles heel of pole trimmers, especially in commercial grounds maintenance operations. The double-sided blade will run up to 2,100 strokes per minute and will cut 21.5mm branches with ease.

This pole trimmer, which has an overall length of 2.55 metres, is powered by the 25.4cc Makita MM4 4-stroke engine that delivers 1.03hp and 1.1Nm of torque. The MM4 engine is providing major fuel economies for landscape contractors with the additional benefits of low noise and clean emissions.

Running on neat petrol the risks associated with 2-stroke oil mixing are eliminated. The MM4 engine has a pressurised lubrication system enabling the trimmer to be used at any angle. A reliable diaphragm carburettor is fitted and the recoil starter actuates the decompressor valve automatically for easy hot and cold starting.

Weighing just 6.9kg the new Makita EN4950H pole hedge trimmer blade can be set at 13 alternative angle positions through a 135° arc from 45° tilt-up angle, to 90° tilt-down angle from the straight shaft horizontal position. An easy-to-use slide clamp just below the drive train locks the blade into the desired position and no tools are necessary to alter the blade position. The blade can be swung down flat against the drive shaft for safe transport. If the engine is running when the blade is in the closed position, a clutch in the drive train automatically stops blade movement for safety.

This well-balanced pole trimmer has an ergonomically designed large loop handle which gives a low 6.3m/s² vibration rating for operator safety and can be easily folded for neat and compact transport and storage.
