Retiring President of Stihl, Fred Whyte was bestowed with the highest honour which the North American Equipment Dealers Association can give at GIE-EXPO this week.

Fred Whyte was presented with a special plaque by Joe Dykes of the Equipment Dealers Association
Mr Whyte, who is retiring as Stihl President at the end of this year, following 23 years in charge, was made an Honourary member of the association.
Joe Dykes, VP Industry Relations of the Equipment Dealers Association said, "Our organisation represents dealers throughout North America and Canada. And many of these are Stihl dealers.
"One of the highest awards we can bestow on an individual is Honoary Member. This status is reserved for those who've shown exceptional leadership and dedication in support of the industry over the course of their careers.
"Our board of directors voted unanimously to recognise Mr Whyte's contribution to our industry. This honour reflects our appreciation of his unwavering support for the specialist dealer channel over the course of his tenure. We would like to thank Mr Whyte for his outstanding service to the OPE industry."

In collecting his award, Fred Whyte said, "Being the recipient of this award is very, very special. I think it also shows validation for the business model which we have pursued over the years since 1926, staying true to the servicing dealers.
"We've had many opportunities over the years to cross the line and go over to the dark side, but we've chosen not to do that. Rather it has benefited us greatly to stay true to the dealer channel.
"This award will have a very special place on my wall. Thank you very much."
