MOWERS AT CHRISTMAS More seasonal exposure for British Lawnmower Museum
Several TV companies have been busy for the Christmas season contacting Brian Radam Curator at Southport's British Lawnmower Museum in Shakespeare Street.
Following on from The Museum's BBC TV Epic Win with all things British earlier this year, the latest programme 'How Britain Worked' was aired Sunday 25th November on Channel 4 at 8pm. ex racing Champion Brian helped recreate the 1st Lawnmower of 1830 with Motor Bike Champion Guy Martin in the final of this fascinating series. Brian & Guy worked with Britain’s top engineers who make machines for The Gadget Show such as a jet powered push bike & a 100mph. dragster powered by chainsaw engines.
The Lawnmower took 300 hours to copy from the original patent & plans preserved at Southport's Museum. Brian commented 'How long must it have taken the original inventor to make the iconic machine!' the design still not changed over the last 182yrs and before the invention of electric or the petrol engine.
Look out possibly for Southport on The Antiques Road Show Christmas Special and a new series with David Walliams & Frank Skinner sure to be a 'cut above the rest!'
