STIHL BACKS GROWN IN BRITAIN
Working to get woodlands working
Grown in Britain is working closely with STIHL to promote good woodland management and care, and the use of homegrown timber.
Grown in Britain is for anyone who values British trees, woods and forests, and the amazing wood and timber products that can be made from them. Encouraging the growth and maintenance of British woodlands, plus a social and economic environment that rewards the same, Grown in Britain is working with growers, processors, manufacturers and retailers to stimulate a sustainable supply and demand chain for British grown wood. Good woodland management and care is one of the foundations of a healthy woodland and forestry sector, and it starts with the tools, equipment and expertise used to keep them productive. Those tools include chainsaws, grounds maintenance power tools and many products from STIHL. Harvesting and felling trees allows light to reach the woodland floor, promoting the growth of young trees and encouraging the development of wildlife habitats. That makes them great places to visit, but also allows for the production of healthy tree crops that can be turned into a huge range of timber products – from chairs to timber-framed buildings. Commenting on the newly formed association, Simon Hewitt, Head of Marketing at STIHL GB said: "Grown in Britain is changing the way the public and businesses view woodland management, and is getting people to consider where their wood comes from. We will be using our connections with the forestry and construction sectors to support this excellent work and promote the ambitions of Grown in Britain." Speaking about STIHL's support, Dougal Driver, Chief Executive of Grown in Britain said: "STIHL are a fantastic partner for Grown in Britain as they not only bring a long history of providing excellent tools to manage our woods and forests but they also understand the need to change the perceptions in our society towards the need for active management. STIHL's support for Grown in Britain is a significant boost to our ambitions to ‘get our woods working'."
