GARDENCARE'S MARATHON EFFORT
Raising money for Fields Of Life

May Day is looking a little bit different at Gardencare this year as the company will be sending out two teams of five would-be athletes to run the annual Deep River Rock Belfast City Marathon.

The company says with fitness levels outweighed by motivation and lap times outweighed by hope for making it through in one piece, it could make for an interesting 26 miles, but is guaranteed to be a great day and even more so, for a great cause.

Their chosen charity for sponsorship is Fields of Life, a UK based charity doing incredible work in Africa since 1993 who primarily focus on assisting locals with agricultural skills, education and health & sanitation improvements. With 117 schools in the region and a footprint of 42,000 people in their education system, the work that Fields of Life is doing is fundamental to the livelihoods of the locals in the area.

Gardencare plan to raise £22,000 over the next number of years to help provide new Boy's & Girls washrooms / toilet (£5000 e/a), a new kitchen block (£8000) and a new well (£4000). And in order to do so they are asking for help with donations in order to reach the target and help improve lives in Uganda forever.

Their efforts can be sponsored here.

With the company's owner and chairman, Dolway Johnston, being heavily involved in Fields of Life, it is a cause which sits very close to both his heart and to the values of Gardencare as a whole. For this reason, Dolway won’t just be cheering from the sidelines but is signed up to a 5 mile leg, putting his best foot forward to helping a Northern Irish company & charity make a difference to lives across the world.
