Dealers are advised to look out for a possible scam involving the purchase of compact tractors reported to us by Richard Phelps of E Buckland Garden Machinery in Gloucestershire.
Earlier this week, Richard took a call from someone looking to buy two Kubota tractors (G23 and G26) for use in a contract. The deal needed to be concluded quickly as he (the contractor) was ‘going on holiday’.
He said he would transfer the money for the tractors immediately by BACS to a Buckland GM deposit bank account . The full sum agreed was duly transferred and appeared on-line in the dealer's bank account.
When the lorry arrived, the tractors were prepared for loading, but before being released Richard told the driver that he needed to transfer the money to his main account. It was then they discovered that the money was not ‘available’.
“All the way through I had a feeling that this didn’t feel right,” says Richard.
He has tried to make contact with the ‘purchaser’ but with no luck. The Police have been informed, and it is understood a number of other dealers have been similarly approached
Have any other dealers had a similar experience, please let us know?
