MODELLING SPRAY DRIFT WORKSHOP
To be held at Cranfield University

Spray drift

The Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) is organising a workshop on modelling spray drift from ground-based applications, in association with The Silsoe Spray Applications Unit (part of NIAB) at Cranfield University on 10 to 11 June 2013.

Models of spray drift have been available since the early 1980’s, with many of the earlier models developed purely as an academic exercise in improving the understanding of spray drift. There are real issues with spray drift and the workshop will seek to tackle the following:

  • Gaining regulatory approval for new agrochemical products
  • Keeping existing products on the market by recognising ‘real world’ situations
  • Gaining recognition for the role engineering developments are playing in reducing environmental impact
  • Ensuring there is a strong pull for new techniques and equipment that improve the sustainability of pesticide usage and eliminating the restrictive effect of a rigid regulatory system

Anyone involved in modelling spray drift are invited to give a brief (15 minute) presentation that addresses these issues. Following the presentations there will be plenty of opportunities for further discussion.

Anyone interested in participating in the workshop should contact IAgrE at conferences@iagre.org or telephone 01234 750876
