MOWN THROUGHOUT THE WORLD
Formal unveiling of Budding plaque in April

There will be a formal unveiling of the plaque commemorating the life of Edwin Budding on 22 April 2015 at the Stroud Brewery.  The brewery occupies the site originally occupied by the Phoenix Textile Mill where Edwin Budding invented the worlds first lawnmower in 1830, before selling the patent to Ransomes in 1830. The special commemorative Blue Plaque, was commissioned by Service Dealer editor Chris Biddle to mark the magazine's 25th Anniversary in 2013.

The plaque was then given to Stroud District Council and Brimscombe and Thrupp Parish Council, and they chose to locate the plaque at Stroud Brewery. Representatives from both council will attend the unveiling.

Stroud Brewery brewed its first beer in 2006, the Budding Ale and has since gone on to win many awards, and has a very strong community following. Founder Greg Pilley says, “We strive in every way to make our business as sustainable as possible – financially, environmentally and socially.

The Budding Ale is still one of the brewer's top selling beers. At an ABV of 4.5%, it is described as having a ‘grassy bitterness, sweet malt and luscious floral aroma’.

A special publication Made in Britain: Mown throughout the World will be produced to mark the event.

Full details of the event wll be confirmed in the New Year.
