Deere & Co.'s plants in Davenport and East Moline will have workforce reductions, the company said.

About 180 workers are affected, including 150 at Harvester Works in East Moline and 30 at Davenport Works.

"We adjust the size of our manufacturing workforce to meet the demand for products,"  a spokesman for Deere, Ken Golden, told local news source Pentograpgh.

The East Moline layoffs are effective September 18th. The Davenport layoffs begin October 2nd.

Workers affected make combines and combine headers at the East Moline plant.

Workers at the Davenport plant make construction and some forestry equipment. Golden said although the combine sales were forecast to be down, it was unexpected that construction sales also would be impacted.

"We thought construction would be up, but that hasn't happened, yet," he told the paper.

Deere announced in August that its third-quarter earnings were down significantly.
