The STIHL Treetop Walkway has been awarded top gong in the Commercial and Leisure category of the 2016 Wood Awards.



The 45th edition of the awards were held at the Carpenters Hall in London, Wednesday 23rd November, where the country’s most renowned lumber landmarks took the limelight. 

At almost 300m the STIHL Treetop Walkway is the longest structure of its kind in the UK. It boasts an aerial pathway through the leafy canopy of The Forestry Commission’s National Arboretum, Westonbirt. Designed by Glenn Howells Architects and sponsored by STIHL, the walkway whisks visitors into and above the arboretum’s tree-tops for a breathtaking birds-eye-view of the world-renowned tree collection.

The 13 metre high walkway transforms the woodland experience with spectacular views across the arboretum landscape and enabling visitors to discover more about Westonbirt’s 15,000 trees from high above the ground.



The impressive structure is made from Larch and Douglas Fir and includes more than 20 pairs of timber legs, ranging in size from 2.5 metres up to 14 metres tall.

The overall winner of the Wood Awards, receiving the Arnold Laver Gold Award, went to Maggie’s at the Robert Parfett Building and in the Education and Public Sector, Stanbrook Abbey were the winners. A full list of the evening’s victors can be found here
