Kevin Roy, Stihl GB Area Sales Manager for the South East of England passed away last Friday, 19 July.
Kevin succumbed to cancer after a relatively brief battle with the illness, and had been receiving intensive treatment for some six months. He had previously countered the disease in 2011, and it was hoped had made a full recovery. He remained very positive that he would once again beat the disease and had spent time with his family and visited the Kent Show just five days before his death.
He joined STIHL GB in October 2007 from a four year role at garden machinery dealer GC Stevens and Son in Sittingbourne, Kent. Kevin’s full 30-year career was founded in the garden machinery industry, with early roles in Dealerships (Arthur Wicken Limited in Sittingbourne and the Country Mower Centre in Canterbury), before a period at Honda’s Head Office in Chiswick and then G C Stevens.
Kevin was of Scottish parents and born in Caerphilly where the family lived before moving to Kent when he was six years of age. Those early years clearly made a strong impression on him – evidenced not least by his avid support of Cardiff Football Club. Since his childhood move to Canterbury, Kevin had remained a Kentish man and his family, including his parents remain in the county today. Kevin leaves three children: Emma, Robert and Thomas aged 24, 22 and 20.
Among the many tributes to Kevin, Robin Lennie of STIHL GB said : “It’s a very sad time here at STIHL GB. Kevin was a very popular and respected friend and colleague to all in our team and is sadly missed. As anyone who knew him would expect, we have been receiving many very positive comments about him from both colleagues and our Dealers and those comments are most appreciated and will be forwarded to his family at an appropriate time.”
Respecting the family's privacy during this very difficult period, STIHL suggests that if anyone wishes to send any cards or condolences, they be communicated through them at the address below. Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced and will also be available from STIHL GB.
