MIDLAND POWER FINDING ITS FEET AGAIN
New owner unviels ambitious growth plans

Gary McWilliam
IT is almost 10 months, since Nottingham-based Hire Supply Company bought Midland Power from the adminstrators, and it is been an 'interesting and revealing learning curve'  according to HSC md, Gary McWilliam.

Midland Power had a considerable presence in the garden machinery sector for many years with a turnover of £8-£9 million and an impressive portfolio of products. However, in recent years the company experienced severe problems and finally went into adminstration at the beginning of 2014.

HSC, one of the leading suppliers to the hire industry, saw the opportunity to add a business that would be both complementary and add an new dimension to their core business.  Now renamed HSC Midland Power Distribution, remains as a separate entity operating out of the existing premises in Orchard Street, Worcester.

"There is little doubt that the Midland Power name still resonates strongly with the dealer trade," says Gary McWilliam, "despite the problems experienced. We are delighted at the progress in the very short time we've been involved , and I am very confident that we will soon be re-establishing the level of business previously achieved by Midland Power."

"The key to the success of HSC since its formation in 2001 has been uncompromising customer service, and with well-known and experienced industry people such as John McGhee, Clive Graham and Stefan Drinkwater spearheading the team we look forward to the future with great confidence."

You can read the full version of the interview with Gary McWilliam in the January/February 2015 issue of Service Dealer out on 3 January.
